BUSINESS OWNERS
Councils are in general terms supportive of new businesses, however Councils are mindful of impacts to surrounding neighbours and to the amenity and character of different areas. Supporting information is required with your DA or CDC, which assesses your proposal against Council planning rules. The supporting information (usually contained with the Statement of Environmental Effects or CDC report, which we provide) needs to address the operation of the business and it needs to satisfy rules.
We also provide a document known as a Plan of Management (POM), a supporting document that demonstrates to Council that the use will operate in a manner that does not cause undue harm to the amenity of the area. These are particularly necessary for DAs relating to gyms and places where alcohol is served. The POM identifies how businesses operate and what management measures will be undertaken to ensure that no nuisance to the local area is experienced as a result of permitting the intended business.
